Absolutely wonderful stay! Fra I Sassi Residence is a gem in the heart of Matera. The location is unbeatable – right in the Sassi with breathtaking views and an authentic atmosphere. The rooms were spotless, charming, and very comfortable. The staff was extremely kind and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. You can feel the love and care they put into the place. Breakfast was a true highlight. We truly enjoyed every moment and would come back without hesitation. Highly recommended!

I honestly cannot recommend this place enough!!! The service was the best we had experienced in our 3 months in Italy. The staff were friendly, professional and quick to respond. I explained that we were there for my husband’s birthday and they went above and beyond to make our stay special. They helped with suggestions and reservations for dinner as well as tours and parking. They were happy to help with any questions we had and you get a free map with suggested routes to see all the sights. You get much-needed cold water upon arrival. I requested a bottle of Prosecco in our room for my husband’s birthday and they happily obliged and provided a fantastic local bottle of Prosecco. We stayed in a private suit and the room was fantastic! It was spacious, with a huge bath and shower and separate toilet. It had a TV, coffee station and air conditioning (which we didn’t need to use despite the extreme heat in Matera as the room is nice and cool as it is in a cave setting). The breakfast was fantastic and the view from the terrace is incredible! The location is fantastic. I would just advise to pack light as it is quite a walk to the accommodation (if you haven’t booked a shuttle from the parking) as it is in the heart of the Sassi and the roads are quite slippery. I also love that they have eco-friendly processes in place to minimise their footprint. We will definitely be back when in Matera!

the Sassi with this view? Unforgettable. We stayed at Fra i Sassi Residence, and honestly, it was everything I hoped for in Matera. Perfect location, gorgeous panoramic views, and a super comfortable room. 🍽️ The breakfast wasn’t a massive hotel buffet, but every item was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious — quality over quantity, for sure. 📸 (BTW, the room looks smaller in this photo than it actually is!) There was a wardrobe space behind the right side of the bed, a bathroom tucked behind the left side, and a small entrance area with a shoe cabinet. And yes… Jin Ramyun with a million-dollar view in the background. No regrets. 😎

Great hotel. We liked it. Well renovated, big rooms, good breakfast, great location. Not cheap, but worth it. Picture is a view of Matera.

We stayed in this Hotel during Easter 2025. Great place to stay in!! We loved the very spacious cave kind of rooms in the old part of town with the amazing views. Breakfast was also great with many options, if I could add something it would be some more savory options but it was very nice!. They have a shuttle service from the main parking in town so you do not have to drag your luggage to the hotel.

L’esperienza che è possibile vivere da Ecoverticale è unica e mi rendo conto solo ora che riguardo le foto, di quanto sia stata fortunata a soggiornare in questo posto incredibile! Le camere sono tutte originariamente scavate nella pietra ed ognuna ha una sua individualità, una sua forma e di conseguenza l’arredo.. ogni dettaglio fa la differenza e rende il tutto ancora più poetico. La vista dalle terrazze è mozzafiato e la sera sembra di stare immersi in una fiaba estiva; da qui è possibile godere della pace e del silenzio che solo Matera sa regalare. La colazione a buffet offre un vero tour gastronomico alla scoperta dei sapori locali. E che dire del personale? Ogni persona all’interno della struttura ci ha fatto sentire davvero accolti e coccolati sotto qualsiasi aspetto. Potessi fermare il tempo, mi fermerei qui per sempre.

Excellent location, right in the heart of the Sassi area. You'll find absolutely stunning views whenever you look out from the terrace. There was only me and another girl during my stay in January, so I was lucky enough to enjoy the serenity. Bathroom was a bit damp but I guess it's unavoidable for old houses. They have two for this 8 ppl hostel room. There's a small working/eating area with microwave. Price is a bit beyond budget (29€ including city tax) compared to other hostels in southern Italy, almost twice as much in Naples. However, considering Matera is a highly touristy town, it’s acceptable to stay at such central location with this price.

Un luogo unico ,mi sono recata per assistere ad un evento musicale ed è stato subito amore.

Bellissima struttura. Non è infatti solo un albergo che vi farà immergere nel cuore di Matera, ma offre anche altre possibilità. Le camere, tutte raccolte intorno alla reception, sono state recuperate dalle abitazioni del Sasso Barisano (imparerete cos'è un lamione) e sono ovviamente una diversa dall'altra (ne abbiamo viste 3) ma tutte offrono ampi spazi e un'esperienza speciale in rapporto con la pietra, dentro e fuori. Accoglienza ottima. La Direttrice Cristina ci ha visti interessati e ci ha raccontato del recupero delle vecchie case e tanto altro, oltre a fornirci consigli pratici per il soggiorno rivelatisi molto utili. Ottima colazione in un ambiente suggestivo. Matera è bellissima.

Accoglienza eccellente! Servizio navetta comodissimo! Camere in grotta suggestive e con vista mozzafiato sui sassi del barisano. Letto e cuscini comodissimi. Colazione super con prodotti locali. Ottimo soggiorno Grazie 🤩

I terrazzini fra i sassi residence è il posto dove vorrete dormire a Matera, nel cuore del Sasso Barisano. Quando avrete dormito qui ci vorrete tornare, la vista sul Duomo di fronte a voi illumina l'ampio panorama, cambia colore a tutte le ore del giorno e notte. Con 15 camere e suite più un ostello adiacente, può ospitare fino a 40 persone circa. Più le sale e gli spazi comuni per la colazioni e incontri. Assieme ai terrazzini Eco Verticale ha messo insieme le competenze di architetti e promotori di eventi, per animare la vita culturale di Matera all'insegna di due parole chiave.
